Fossil identification

It's always nice to be able to put a name to fossils you find, but sometimes something a little unusual comes your way that you can't put your finger on.

Usually a quick trawl of Wikipedia does the job; if not, there are a number of reasonable websites and excellent books available (see our guide to get you started), and most museums are happy to take a look at your specimens for you.

However, for many people, these avenues can be fruitless. Therefore we are glad to offer up our expertise to assist where we can.

Just complete the following form with as much information as you can, and we'll set our minds to it!

We'd like to know:

Your name:  and e-mail address:
Your home county:

Where you found the fossil. Include as much detail as possible, preferably including the nearest place name name, a grid reference or co-ordinates.

The formation the fossil was found in:  and its age (e.g. Cretaceous):

Images. Please take a look at our guide to photographing fossils to give us the best chance of identification!

Try to illustrate all key features and different viewpoints.
